I’m sad to report that, after 48 years of marriage, Margie Bearss, the wife of Ed Bearss and distinguished Civil War historian in her own right, passed away on October 7 after a very lengthy illness.

I did a program with Ed at the end of July, and I asked him then how Margie was doing. He told me then that he had nearly lost her a week or so earlier, so I figured it was just a matter of time. I’m sad to report that Margie finally lost her battle.

Condolences to Ed and his family.

That is sad news and you are right about her own historical work. She wrote a fine Meridian Campaign history that ranks right up there with anything her husband wrote.

    Eric:

I just spoke to Ed last Monday. This is indeed terrible news.

My condolences to Ed as well. I never had the pleasure of meeting her, and know only of her what others have said. That I will be remembered so honorably.

Am sorry to read this as well. I never got the chance to meet her either, and did not know about her work in the Civil War field until I got the chance to walk with Mr. Bearss on a couple of tours of battlefields with him a few years ago.

My condolences to him and their family.

    Regards from the Garden State,

    Steve
