We recently published a thorough piece on the role of California in the American Civil War, written by USC historian William Deverell and UCLA graduate student David Lynch, and we thought you would enjoy it given your interest in the history of the Civil War:

]]>Late April I am headed to Vicksburg hoping to photograph all their art work but am having a devil of a time trying to locate where the statues and reliefs will be located. The web information is not helping much. I did find a book:
Vicksburg Battlefield Monuments: A Pictorial Record – Harold Young; Paperback
which I am going to purchase. Do you know of any maps which do not deal with the battles but instead talk about the memorials and why those men were selected to be memorialized? Or is this a book waiting to be written?
Hoping to catch your fancy.

Subject: Past Issues of North South
I was on your website and seeing no way to contact North South via a web link except “Letters to the Editor” I thought I would try this.
I would like to purchse a copy of the Feb. 2002 isssue, Vol. 5, #2. My great grandfather was wounded at Cold Harbor on June 3, 1864 and in touring the field yesterday the NPS advised of your issue pertaining to the battle. Can you advise how I can obtain that issue?
thank you,

I use voice activated software, Dragon Naturally speaking. It is pretty accurate and cuts down on the typing – good way to alleviate the carpal tunnel.
Best
