After playing for years, I had my face broken by a fastball from a guy who ended up with the Cardinals farm team. I was forever spooked in the batters box and could never hit again. My eye socket is still indented and my nose is crooked to this day. Imagine getting hit so hard you go into shock. Yeah, I was done. Ended up stinking it up for 1 more season before switching to softball after 8 years of baseball. It was not pretty. In fact perhaps I should include myself in the book 🙂

Starting then, I was on our intramural team until graduation from High School – as… you guessed… catcher. God pretty darn good throwing even the fastest runners out at second base. Was our All-Star catcher for all three series, too.

But if I threw a baseball for more than ten feet right now, I think my arm would fly off at the shoulder.
