(This message was added in version 4.2.0.) in /home/netscrib/public_html/civilwarcavalry/wp-includes/functions.php on line 4239As a researcher of Roanoak and the one who GPS plotted the entire Williamsburg Battlefield in Virginia to fight development, I caution in this lunacy. The site is well known and is identified on a rare map Mr. Dawson has no knowledge of. The sawmill was located in this immediate area for the construction of the Freeman’s Colony due to the landing. The earthworks were used as a base of operations after the Battle. The area has some relation to historic events prior to 1862, but there is no evidence of the Ralegh Colony in this area. The silver is most probably due to disgard from the trace elements of the early radio facility. Mr. Dawson has discovered nothing. If you do not believe me ask Mike Tames. I commend your interest in history, but deplore your rush to “Sutter’s Gold”. Keep up the good work of historic research, but keep away from the selfish persuit of relics. In this area it is a Felony.

]]>I’m pretty sure I did meet him. The name definitely stuck with me.
I’m intrigued by this controversy. Please keep me posted as to how this shakes out. It’s all very interesting.

]]>That truly is exciting news! I’ve been visiting the Outer Banks since I was in High School, and have always been fascinated with the area’s history. Coincidentally, I have been contemplating purchasing a metal detector for relic hunting. This story sealed that decision! Thanks for the great post.
