I am Col. Boyd’s great-great grandson. I am familiar with much of the information in this article; (I did not know about John Mosby though).
As a sort of “proof” of my identity, I know that Col. Boyd’s parents – William Boyd and Ellen Brakey – came from County Ballybogan Ireland. William Boyd had been ordered to Montreal by the Irish Army, then still a part of the United Kingdom; he was a litter bearer. Col. Boyd was born in a garrison as that is where his father was stationed.
I stumbled onto your site while researching a marker in memory of the 21st PA Cavalry (which I haven’t found yet) – perhaps you know of it. It is located just outside the boundaries of Gettysburg National Park, possibly on private land, or county or state road right-of-way. My father has an old photo of it but doesn’t remember where he took it.
Again, if I can be of assistance, please let me know.
