I live in Union County and just visited the building from the article a few days ago. There is, indeed, a monument for African American soldiers of the Civil War in place. We took pictures and everything…it prompted quite a discussion about the Civil War for us. (I would provide a picture for you if I could.)

Here is a question to ask yourself: why did the South see a Haitian style bloodbath during the war from its slave population? Clearly, there were manpower shortages that would have been able to put down a slave insurrection. We have been told for generations that fear of the lash was the only thing that kept slaves in line in the South. When that lash was absent, where was the slave revolt?
