The two organizations before their merger in November of 1999 (APCWS and CWT) had already saved at least 12,590 acres of battlefield land. The CWPT’s web site today states that the organization has saved over 25,000 acres. Simple subtraction implies that in the nine years of Lighthizer’s tenure the organization could only have saved some 12,500 acres of land, not the 20,000 acres claimed in the story.

He tripled the membership? How so? Pre-merger membership was 35,000 between APCWS and CWT. According to their most recent mailing it is 60,000. Membership now is different then when he took over. Isn’t it comparing apples and oranges to Lighthizers benefit.
Why should Lighthizer get the credit for what was done by the preservationists before the merger?
