Having grown up in the Philadelphia suburbs, I am a life-long, die-hard, long-suffering Philadelphia Eagles fan. The Eagles won their last NFL championship in 1960, about 90 days before I was born. They have not won one in my lifetime, although they have lost in the Super Bowl twice, 1981 and 2005.

I’m wearing my Donovan McNabb jersey as I write this. I’m always really excited at the beginning of the season, and I pay for the NFL Sunday ticket package on DirecTV so that I can watch every game. I spent the afternoon watching the Eagles beat the Houston Texans 24-10 today. McNabb is healthy again, and their new wideout, Donte Stallworth, made a large and immediate impact today.

Once again, I’m optimistic for the chances of my Eagles, although they will, undoubtedly, end up breaking my heart again, just as they do every year. For now, though, I’m going to enjoy it for as long as it lasts.

And let’s hope that Terrell Owens pulls his hamstring again, and that he misses most, if not all, of the season. I hate Dallas as much as I hate the New York Yankees, and now that Owens is there, it gives me all that much more reason to hate them intensely.

I am right there with you Eric. I grew up just 50 miles from Philadelphia and my father is from South Philly so that means I had little choice as to who I rooted for. Let’s just hope this is our year. Looks like a pretty good start.

    Eric,

I’ve got ya beat with the “long suffering” bit. My Cleveland Browns have NEVER been to the big dance, though they’ve been one game away from the Super Bowl 5 times. They just concluded another season-opening “amateur hour at the improv” by losing to the ‘aints, 19-14. ๐Ÿ™ How bad? Their first offensive first-down came near the end of the first half. Oh well, we’re still only a game out of first place… Hope springs eternal.

No let’s hope TO pulls both hamstrings, a groan, a couple of hip-flexors (?), and everything else…

    Eagles looked good today.

I’m from Chicago so Go Bears! Also, Eric congrats on the book sell out, that’s great. I have one ordered myself…

    Thanks, guys

Kevin, I hadn’t realized you were a Philly guy too. I knew I liked you for a reason. ๐Ÿ™‚

    Paul, I feel your pain.

Chris, I saw most of the Bears-Packers game today. Your Bears looked pretty good. If Grossman stays healthy, they could be tough indeed.

Who’d have thunk my Bengals (and let’s not hear about long suffering, even from Cleveland!) would get seven sacks in a game. That’s a total they’d shoot for by the bye week!

Defense holds Kansas City without a touchdown till late in the fourth quarter?

So you’re halfway between Cleveland and Cincinnati, Eric.. Which Ohio team do you pull for?

All of you should quit complaining. It has been 50 years since the Detroit Lions won any kind of championship. In the interim, Cincy, Cleveland, and Philly have all won conference titles and played for the chance to get into the Big Game. Detroit has won a single playoff game in those 50 years (which does give them a good won-loss percentage, since they have been in so few playoff games).

    Dave,

Usually the Bengals. I always like Kenny Anderson and I always like Collinsworth, so I tend to root for them.

    Jim,

That is a nearly unparalleled record of futility.

It’s akin to rooting for the Chicago Cubs.

Eric, once you remember that the Fords own the Lions, you understand why the automotive industry has gone South…
